Description
'Towards a deeper understanding of the Holy Mass (the history of the Holy Mass)'' incorporates 15 chapters and largely traces the origins of the Holy Mass in times past, and how it has evolved in a number of countries in our world.
Chapter 1 revolves round some conceptions of the Mass, ranging from its appreciation as a mystery and its essentials to its documentation in the Holy Gospels and the traditions of the Catholic Church.
Following the introductory chapter is the notion of how Christ's foremost followers shaped the Catholic Church and the Mass in particular, as the second chapter focuses on the context of the Holy Mass in Europe stemming from the first Holy Mass of the Apostle Peter (the very first Vicar or Pope) in Rome as well as the growth of the early Christian Church.
Chapter 3 zooms its lens on the merits drawn from attendance at the Holy Mass overtime and the opinions of numerous saints in this respect.
Similarly, Chapter 4 exposes some insights provided by the Catholic faithful concerning their belief about the efficacy of the Holy Mass in their daily living, and the viewpoint of a Stigmata in terms of the symbolism of particular sections of this venerated sacrifice.
Chapter 5 recounts the practical observations of some saints regarding the potency of the Holy Mass in the affairs of its participants.
There is sizable information in chapter 6 that applies to the sacred signs that are adopted in the course of the Mass, their history and what each sign signifies.
The 7th chapter refers to the ground-breaking changes that were effected in the Mass cum Church by Pope Paul VI in the 1960s, the bases for these modifications, their effects and the role of the 2nd Vatican Council in all these.
Chapter 8 specifies the more recent changes made to the Holy Mass in 2010 and why this had to be so. Motley opinions about this development are included too.
The 9th chapter takes a stab at outlining the evolution of daily Mass in the Church, in addition to how the Latin and the Roman Masses started.
In Chapter 10, the book takes a peek at the development of the Holy sacrifice in some particular countries of the world, spanning a number of continents.
Chapter 11 involves the prophecies made about the form and spirit of the Holy Mass in specific sections of the Holy Bible, especially in the Old Testament and in Catholic doctrine/tradition.
The successive chapter (Chapter 12) sheds some light on the early days or beginnings of some dimensions of the Holy Mass, how they (the dimensions) all started and what each symbolises.
Chapter 13 expounds on the celebration of the Holy Mass in the period of the Middle Ages, the emergence of St.Thomas Aquinas and the practice of the sacrament of the Holy Eucharist during this same time frame.
Lastly, whilst Chapter 14 analyses through striking up a tri-way comparison between the Tridentine/Latin Mass, the new order of the Mass (that is, the Novus Ordo Mass as introduced by Pope Paul VI) and the Protestant form of service, Chapter 15 serves as a stark reminder of the absolute biblical nature of the hallowed offering.
